The City of Jersey City, Mayor Steven Fulop, Office of the Municipal Council and Office of the Cultural Affairs are proud to recognize Rotary International District 7490 and the Rotarians Combating Human Trafficking And Slavery Committee to bring its month-long Awareness observance on its 2nd Annual Flag Raising Ceremony on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service and advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-political and non-religious organization. There are 35,000 member clubs worldwide, with a membership of 1.2 million individuals, known as Rotarians.
Rotarians Combating Human Trafficking And Slavery Committee’s (RCHTAS) mission is to combat commercial sex and labor trafficking by uplifting the voices of survivors, educating the public, empowering our youth with leadership projects to stand against trafficking, fundraising for survivors’ needs and working with allied professionals to safely engage systems involved to end human trafficking. Rotarians representing Rotary District 7490 joined with the community for the first flag raising ceremony to bring an awareness of the challenges people face experiencing human trafficking.
Human Trafficking is the recruiting, harboring, transporting, provisioning, or obtaining people through force, fraud, or deception, with the purpose of exploiting them for profits. People of all genders, sexes, and ages and from all backgrounds experience this crime, which occurs in every region of the world including through out the State of New Jersey.
