Sounds of the Rising Sun

This summer, we embarked on a musical journey featuring the rich culture of East Asia. At this free outdoor concert, the New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players played a selection of traditional Chinese songs and contemporary works by Asian composers in arrangements by American composers. Permitting for Special Events

As the organization responsible for facilitating special events across the city, a major component of our work at the Office of Cultural Affairs is the event permit process. We help event organizers navigate this process to ensure the safe and successful use of city property for public events.

Other Events

We will add community events to be held on private property to our community calendar if they are open to the public. While events to be held on private property do not have to go through the permitting process noted above, we ask that event organizers complete and submit a form to seek approval to be added to our community calendar.

City Hall Events

Throughout the year, the Office of Cultural Affairs supports city hall events—from flag raisings and ribbon cuttings to press conferences, ground breakings and the Mayor’s Toy Drive.
