The City of Jersey City, Mayor Steven Fulop, Office of Municipal Council and Office of Cultural Affairs are proud to recognize the Muslim Council North America and the Muslim Federation of New Jersey  as we celebrate the 74th Anniversary of  Independence of Pakistan during the Flag Raising Ceremony on Friday, August 13, 2021.

Pakistan, one of the two original successor states to British India, was partitioned along religious lines in 1947. Pakistan achieved its independence on August 14, 1947, with dominion status in the British Commonwealth of Nations.  For almost 25 years following independence, it consisted of two separate regions, East and West Pakistan, now only made up of the western sector.

The Pakistani community has directly contributed to the diversity and positive growth of Jersey City in various fields, including education, entrepreneurship, government, literature, drama, sculpture, music, food, and culture, as well as all aspects of life throughout the United States and abroad; and continues to influence our beliefs, embedded values and quest for independence.

The City of Jersey City and the Pakistani community will proudly fly the flags of the United States and Pakistan high above City Hall in recognition of the cherished cultural and ethnic diversity of our community. It is also a reaffirmation of the long friendship built on common values and an abiding love for freedom.
