The City of Jersey City, Mayor Steven M. Fulop, the Jersey City Municipal Council and the Office of Cultural Affairs are excited to welcome back the SummerFest concert series.

SummerFest is a concert series that takes place every Tuesday and Sunday in Liberty State Park during the months of July and August. Part of the larger Summer in the City series, the Office of Cultural Affairs hand selects musical groups ranging in flavor, from Motown, Jazz, Blues, Vintage and Classic Rock, Country, Cuban Dance, Funk and R&B.

Today’s performance: Richard Reiter Swing Band (Swing, Classic Rock)

About the Band:

The RICHARD REITER SWING BAND, New Jersey’s most popular swing combo, performs exciting standards from the swing era, highlighting America’s greatest composers, including Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Ellington, etc.  The group features Reiter on saxophone, clarinet and flute, vocalist Tricia Slafta, with Mitch Schechter on keyboard, Paul Ivory on bass and Luther Rix on drums.  Repertoire includes:  “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Sing Sing Sing,”  and many jump swing tunes (early Rock ’n Roll) including “Jump Jive n’ Wail”, “Kansas City” and “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie.”

Richard Reiter, an Emmy Award winning composer, has performed as guest jazz saxophone soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, featured artist on PBS television, on-stage clarinet soloist in Bob Fosse’s Broadway musical “Dancin’,” and backup for such notables as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis and Nancy Wilson.

Of Reiter’s group, Gil Perlroth wrote in the Westport (Connecticut) News:  “Focused around Richard Reiter’s soaring sax and Tricia Slafta’s beautiful voice, the RICHARD REITER SWING BAND has a great feel for this music…the audience cheered and gave them a standing ovation.”
