Making a Way: (As) Independent Curators

November 20, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Many independent curators work across artistic roles and institutional contexts, moving in and out of cultural institutions, and figuring hybrid practices. Join curators Marýa Wethers and Gabri Christa, and Wesleyan’s Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance (ICPP) alumnx for an artist talk and public conversation, moderated by Candace Thompson-Zachery. The talks are accompanied by exhibition viewings of Rammellzee: The Private Collection of the Magistrate, and Andy Warhol: The Original Silkscreens, as well as a short excerpt from a new work-in-process by Armitage Gone! Dance. Led by choreographer Karole Armitage, this new work is inspired by Luchino Visconti’s la strega bruciata viva (The Witch Burned Alive), which explores the netherworld behind a glamorous image.

INSTITUTE FOR CURATORIAL PRACTICE IN PERFORMANCE (ICPP)
ICPP is the first institute of its kind, a center for the study of the presentation and contextualization of contemporary performance. The program offers students a graduate-level education in curatorial approaches to developing and presenting dance, theater, performance and other time-based arts.
