This was initiated by the Championing Political Change Organization in collaboration with Jersey City Municipal Council and Office of Cultural Affairs. Young and old of diverse communities in attendance including multiple Asian American organizations like Jersey City Immigrant Affairs Commission, Philippine American Friendship Community (PAFCOM),  Nepalese ADWAN.org, Jersey City Asian Merchants Association (JCAMA), Anakbayan North Jersey, Gabriela NJ, Migrante-NJ, Malaya Movement, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice (NJAIJ), J.C.I. North Jersey, P.A.C.C.A.L., Sub Continent Peace Foundation, American Civil Liberties Union – New Jersey, The Sindhi Foundation, American Civil Liberties Union – NJ, Solidarity JC, JC Muslim Community, Indian community, African-Americans, et. al..

While JC Mayor Steven Fulop was out of town, in solidarity with Stop Asian Hate rally were NJ Atty. General Gurbir S. Grewal, NJ Assemblyman Raj Mukherji and Hoboken Mayor Ravinder Singh Bhalla to name a few of the featured speakers. In behalf of Mayor Fulop and his office, stood JC Municipal Council members like JC Council President Joyce Watterman, Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey, Councilman Yousef J. Saleh, and Councilman James Solomon. It has been reiterated that “Hate is definitely has no home in Jersey City” and “Enough is Enough.”  There is a need to communicate more and unify with the petition to endorse Jersey City’s Community Asks to address safety in Jersey City. The event was hosted by Council-At-Large Rolando Lavarro Jr. with several Fil Am organizers.

“A big thank you to the Councilman and all the non profits that helped organize the Jersey City rally to demonstrate our solidarity with the importance of a strong statement to #stopasianhate.

While I wish I could have been there in person, I was conflicted due to an out of state family event that had been scheduled for months but the mayor’s office was represented at the rally as we share the strong feeling there is no place in Jersey City or in our country for the type of racism and violence we are seeing.

Our city is microcosm of the entire country with our diversity and we stand as a strong example of a community that not only accepts our differences but embraces and appreciates our differences to make us a stronger city.

Thank you to everyone that was able to join today and to everyone that has been a voice pointing out that what we are seeing across the country with Asian hate is not acceptable to any of us.”    ~ Mayor Steven Fulop
